Three brothers, Joseph, George and Jacob, came in a sailing ship full of passengers from Ireland (Dublin) and landed at Halifax. Jacob went to the U. S. (Baltimore, Maryland). George moved up the St. Lawrence to what was then York (Toronto) on Lake Ontario and Joseph, our grandfather, remained for a time at Campbellton, New Brunswick with relatives named Parker. He was a youngster, about 18 at the time.
He left New Brunswick and came West up to Kingston, which was a very important town, a Military Fort, etc. at that time. He was a shoemaker by trade and worked at his trade in these settlements along the St. Lawrence. He left Kingston with a group of settlers in Perth and moved back north to Lanark Co. Perth was and still is the county town. They joined the settlers in Perth and remained there. Joseph Bond, Grandpa, later on was married to Henrietta Lake in Perth.
The above was taken from a detailed description by George Marborough Bond of his conversations with his grandfather, Joseph Bond, sometime in the 1930's. This document is in the possesion of our cousin, Fred King.
Our paternal ancestor research begins with Joseph Bond who was born Dec 1809 IRE and settled in Beckwith Township, Lanark County, Upper Canada in 1827 according to the 1842 census. He had previously resided in Quebec and Perth before marrying Henrietta Lake 30 Jan 1834 in St. James' Anglican Church at Carleton Place, Lanark County. Upper Canada. Joseph died 2 Feb 1902 Cardinal, Ontario and his obituary stated he was a native of Dublin. Joseph was a shoemaker by trade and. Henrietta was born about 1811 and came to Canada in the 1820s from County Wexford, Ireland with her father, Joseph, her brother, Peter, and sister, Margaret. Joseph and Henrietta had eleven children: George 1835-unk (died as infant),, Jacob 1837-1873, George 1838-1908, Joseph H. 1840-1886, William Henry 842-1912, Hernrietta 1844-1926, Everina Marie 1846-1914, Margaret Jane 1848-1943, Robert Langford Apr 1851-aft 1939, Richard Nelson 1851-1944, & Sarah Rebbecca 1855-unk. All were born in Beckwith Township.
Joseph H. Bond married Bridget Barnett 21 Apr 1863 in St. James' Anglican Church at Carleton Place, Bathurst District, Canada West. Joseph was a tinsmith, census offier, road commissioner and a constable. They had the following seven children: George Marlborough 1864-1951, Ada Louise 1866-unk, Joseph 1868-1868, Milton Barnett born 1869-1919, Joseph Edward 1871-unk, Jacob Burton Drout 1878-1914 & Mabel Henrietta "Hattie" Jane 1880-1957. All were born at Almonte, Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario.
Joseph's son, Jacob Burton Drout Bond, married Grace Mae Giroux 24 Jun 1904 at Fulton, Oswego, New York, USA. Burton worked as a mill operator in Wanakena, St. Lawrence, NY. They had one child, my father, Russell Burton born 24 Apr 1905 at Fulton, Oswego, NY. Burton and Grace had a short marriage and because Burton's health wasn't good, he returned to Canada where he died of a stroke 4 Oct 1914 (age 36) at the Perley Home in Ottawa. He is supposed to be buried in St. James' Anglican Cemetery in Carleton Place, Ontario; but, there is no record of his burial or a grave marker.
Flum Family
My maternal ancestor search also starts in New York State & Pennsylvania USA back to Germany. The surnames are Fitting, Flum, Graef, Kaiser, Rosthauser, Seemiller, Wolf & Zehr. Ludwig Flum was born 1 Jul 1828 and Magalena Kaiser 23 Jun 1827, both at Gorwihl, Waldshut, Baden, Germany. They emigrated to the United States on the ship "Mary Ogden" which left from Le Havre, France and arrived in New York City on 20 Apr 1855. They were married 27 May 1855 in Syracuse, Onondaga, NY. Ludwig was a cabinet maker by profession and declared his intention to become a U.S. citizen on 14 Nov 1855. Ludwig died 10 Aug 1888 & Magdalena 7 Dec 1885 and are buried in Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse. They had four children; Albertina, born 15 Aug 1855, Lewis C., born 15 Jan 1858, twins Joseph & Theresa Appollonia, born 2 Mar 1862 and Joseph died 7 Jul 1862 & Theresa died 6 Jul 1862 and are also buried in Assumption Cemetery.

Giroux Family
Alexander Giroux was born in 1825 and came to the United States from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Lower Canada as did his wife Matilda Pratt who was born in 1826. Alexander was a shoemaker and resided in Fulton, Volney Township, Oswego, NY, USA. I haven't be able to identify either of their parents. They had eight children: George b. 1851, Angeline b. 1852, Caroline b. 1854, Thomas b. 1857, Theodore Collis b. 8 Aug 1857 (Note: Thomas & Theodore are possibly twins, but more likely one and the sane), Minnie b. 1859, Ellen b. 1864 and Souisa b. 1866. Alexander died 19 Mar 1896 in Minetto, NY and Matilda died in 1871 in Fulton, NY. Alexander had a second wife, Isabel (Belle) who died 22 Jul 1877 in Fulton. All three are buried in Mount Adnah Cemetery in Fulton.
Theodore married Flora Etta Glines born 17 Mar 1860 in Moultonborough, Carroll, New Hampshire. Her parents were George W. Glines & Henrietta Jackson. Theodore was a barber at 14 S. First St. and resided at 28 First St. in 1909 and later at 408 Cayuga St. in Fulton. Theodore died 7 May 1929 and Etta died 15 Apr 1935. They had four children and only one survived, my grandmother, Grace Mae b. May 1882, d. 18 Apr 1956. All are buried in Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton, NY.

Why We Search
Dear Ancestor,
Your tombstone stands among the rest
neglected and alone.
The name and date have worn off
the weathered marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care.
It's now too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died .... and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our hearts contract and beat a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear ancestor, the place you filled
some hundred years ago
spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder how you lived and loved.
I wonder if you knew
that someday I would find this place
and come and visit you.

Genealogist's Psalm
Genealogy is my pastime,
I shall not stray;
It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tombstones,
It leadeth me into still courthouses;
It restoreth my ancestral knowledge.
It leadeth me in paths of census records and ship's passenger lists for my surname's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries and microfilm readers,
I shall fear no discouragement,
For a strong urge is within me;
The curiosity and motivation they comforteth me.
It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of
countless documents;
It anointest my head with burning midnight oil,
My family group sheets runneth over.
Surely, birth, marriage and death dates shall follow me all the
days of my life,
And I shall dwell in the house of a family-history seeker forever.
